Faith, Family, and a Business with Purpose: The Chappell Family’s DreamMaker Journey

When Clint and Julie Chappell began praying about their next chapter, they weren’t just looking  for a new business, they were looking for an organization that reflected their faith and values, strengthened their family, and allowed them to serve their community.

In February 2022, that dream took shape when they opened DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Greater Rockwall, TX.

Discovering DreamMaker

Before discovering DreamMaker, Clint worked as a mechanical engineer in the oil and gas industry, a career that kept him on frequent business trips and often away from home. When the pandemic temporarily grounded travel and brought Clint home full-time, the family quickly realized how much they treasured that time together.

Julie remembers, “When Clint stopped traveling, we realized how much we loved being together. It made us think seriously about a family business.” So, Julie prayed for clarity, seeking a faith-based business that shared their same values. Later that day a simple Google search led her to DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen. She shared the discovery with Clint, and they both decided to reach out. Within 24 hours, they had a call scheduled with one of our recruiters. Conversations quickly became plans, and then within 6 months they were preparing for Discovery Day (Step 6 in our 8-Step Mutual Evaluation Process), where they could meet the team in-person and learn even more about our systems and processes. “It all just fell into place,” Julie says. “We felt like God kept opening doors.”

Choosing DreamMaker

The Chappells explored several other business opportunities, but something always felt off – and many of these other opportunities came with expectations that didn’t align with the realities of raising five kids. DreamMaker was different from the start and stood out immediately. Following the 8-Step Mutual Evaluation Process allowed both sides to have clear communication and set expectations that made sense for their family and the business.  This organized approach gave Clint and Julie the opportunity to feel confident moving forward with a company they felt truly reflected their values.

“DreamMaker was incredibly responsive,” Clint says. “And more importantly, the integrity we saw matched what we believed. The company lived its values—not just on paper, but in how people interacted with us.”

“Every time we met with Doug, we walked away encouraged,” Julie recalls. “We prayed together as a family and felt unity and peace. It was absolutely a step of faith, but it was also clear direction.”

Coaching and franchisee conversations were pivotal in the decision as well. “Knowing you’re not alone—that someone has walked this road before you—is huge,” Clint says. “The advice and support have been invaluable.”

Their early experience reflected several of the principles they were seeking in a business, such as integrity and service. They felt confident DreamMaker was built on these same values. From starting the process in a post-COVID environment, to navigating training, and then to Grand Opening, Clint and Julie felt supported and encouraged every step of the way.

At DreamMaker We Believe:

Family Business Shaped by Faith

Today, the Chappell family serves the Greater Rockwall area with a spirit of teamwork, positivity, and purpose. The business was a family business from the beginning. Clint serves as the Owner and General Manger, Julie serves as the Owner and Office Assistant, and their son Joel serves as the Production Manager.

Their son has become a standout leader in the business. “He has such an eye for detail and is a great communicator,” Julie shares. “Our clients absolutely love him. Many ask if he’ll be there for their next project.”

Their son Joshua and his wife have other jobs, but they help out when they can, and especially love to do events in the community like the local 4th of July parade, where they bring their “grand-dog,” a golden retriever who is a big hit with everyone.

Their family dynamic adds a relational approach to remodeling.  The Chappell family genuinely enjoys working together, and their clients often feel like extended family.

Part of that comes from the vision statement they developed early in their training, a vision Clint keeps displayed above his desk:

“To demonstrate God’s love and touch lives through lasting relationships and quality service with excellence based on our Code of Values, for homeowners in our community to be fulfilled in their remodeling ambitions.”

Their business is shaped by this vision from how they approach remodeling jobs, interact with clients, and how they formed their team. They credit their vision statement with creating the perfect environment to attract wonderful people to their team. The Chappells are grateful to have Phil their lead carpenter, and Christa their sales and design assistant. Julie states that her team is “such a blessing.”

Julie says the vision statement is a reminder that helps them stay grounded in why they do what they do, especially during busy seasons.

Support that Makes a Difference

From the beginning, DreamMaker’s training and coaching played a vital role.
Their Week in the Life experience (an in-person training visit to an operating DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen location) gave them confidence and clarity.

The coaching continues as Clint explains. “Any time you face a new challenge, someone has already walked that road. You never feel like you’re on an island.”

January Workshop is a yearly event that is meant for DreamMaker franchise owners to come together to train, plan for the new year, and improve their business. This event has become a favorite for the Chappells. “We come prepared with our plans, then refine them with the help of other owners,” Clint says. “It’s incredibly helpful to hear ideas from across the network.”

Reunion is our DreamMaker’s yearly summer conference for franchisees to come together to learn, grow, and share best practices and ideas. This event adds another layer of growth. Leadership speakers, team discussions, and training help keep everyone focused and energized. Julie adds, “We always come home inspired. The books, the ideas, the encouragement—it all helps us grow as leaders.”

Leading Through Service

For the Chappells, remodeling is an opportunity to serve and love people well. Some of their most meaningful stories come from moments where they were able to make a positive impact in people’s lives.

They describe designing a bathroom for a boy with muscular dystrophy:
“We measured everything—counter heights, shower access, wheelchair movement. We wanted it to fit his life perfectly.”

Another couple, navigating Parkinson’s and age-related challenges, quickly became close friends after doing some work for them. “They’ve become like family,” Julie says. “We’ve shared meals together, and they constantly bless us with their kindness.” The couple has since had 4 bathrooms remodeled, some kitchen work, and an added wet bar area.

An especially moving story was a senior woman who was fearful of being financially taken advantage of by another company she was working with. They told her she needed extensive repair in the attic. So, Joel offered to go take a video and show her for peace of mind. He climbed into the attic, recorded evidence, and confirmed her fear…she was about to be misled. “She was so grateful for Joel’s honesty and transparency,” Julie remembers. “Moments like that remind us why we do this.”

This experience led the woman to review our Code of Values, and she felt completely at ease with the Greater Rockwall team from there on out.

These combined experiences reflect a simple truth the Chappells hold dear: Success grows when relationships come first and people feel genuinely cared for.

Julie puts it best:
“Every project is a chance to help someone, and we feel blessed by the people we meet.”

In Conclusion

For those considering DreamMaker, Clint and Julie offer heartfelt advice:

“If you want a business where values truly matter, DreamMaker is special. The support is incredible, the leadership is genuine, and it’s a wonderful way to grow closer as a family while serving your community.”

Julie adds, “Everyone at DreamMaker lives the values. That’s what makes the difference.”

Looking back, the Chappells see DreamMaker as God’s plan—a family-centered business that allows them to serve, grow, and make a positive impact.

Their story is a powerful reminder for future franchisees: When your business aligns with your faith and values, the work becomes more than a career; It becomes a calling.
