From Northwest Arkansas to the National Stage: How DreamMaker’s Mary Baxter Won First Place in a National Design Competition

Twenty years of experience. One national title. And a franchise system that gave her the platform to shine.

When Showplace Cabinetry announced the results of its New Product Design Contest, one name stood above the rest: Mary Baxter, owner of DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Northwest Arkansas.

DreamMaker earned first by submitting a remodeling project that blended two distinct design aesthetics, satisfied two very different homeowner visions, and transformed a traditionally styled French home into something modern, functional, and award-winning.

For Mary Baxter, who brings more than 20 years of remodeling expertise to every project, this recognition is deeply earned. For DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen, it’s proof of something the brand has always believed: when you give talented, driven franchise owners the right platform, remarkable things happen.

A Home Transformed: The Vision Behind Cave Springs

The clients came to Mary with a clear desire but a complex challenge. Their home carried a traditional French character, but they were ready for something different.

“We listened closely to what the clients needed and focused on improving function while keeping the space aesthetically beautiful,” Mary said. “The home had a very traditional French style, but the clients wanted a more modern feel. We blended traditional and modern elements and made significant updates.”

That ability to listen first and design second is a hallmark of Mary’s approach and a core value that DreamMaker instills across its entire franchise network.

The Details That Won a National Title

The Cave Springs project was a complete reimagining of an entire main floor, executed with precision and intentionality.

In the kitchen, the design choices were both clever and beautiful:

  • Larger drawers and concealed cabinetry keep small appliances, the coffee machine, and microwave completely out of sight delivering the clean, uncluttered aesthetic the clients wanted
  • A custom walnut pull-out table built directly into the island slides out from beneath the quartz countertop to create additional workspace or seating and tucks away invisibly when not needed
  • A custom range hood hand-crafted from ¾-inch walnut wood strips with black crown detailing, complemented by a matching walnut hutch
  • Two hidden coffee bars with roll-back doors provide functional luxury that disappears into the design
  • A porcelain slab fireplace with modern metal doors, flanked by two large frosted glass metal doors that anchor the space with quiet drama

Beyond the kitchen, the project extended across the full main floor: new flooring throughout, updated bedroom beams and fresh paint, a fully redesigned laundry room, two entirely new additions, and even a custom dog wash station and a pool bath.

Every element was considered and complemented the homeowners’ desires.

"I get excited when I know what the client wants and I have to marry two designs to please both the wife and husband."

Twenty Years of Expertise, One Winning Result

What makes the Cave Springs project exceptional isn’t just the quality of the finishes, it’s the thinking behind every decision. The pull-out table that disappears into the island. The concealed appliances. The coffee bars hiding behind roll-back doors. These aren’t standard spec choices. They come from a designer who has spent two decades studying how people actually use their homes.

Mary’s depth of experience means she can walk into a traditionally styled home and see a modern one waiting inside it. She can hear clients describe their preferences and find the design language that satisfies, and this is the kind of expertise that wins national competitions.

The DreamMaker network is proud to have franchise owners of this caliber representing the brand. And this win belongs not just to Mary Baxter, but to everyone at DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Northwest Arkansas.
