Mike Aukerman and son-in-law Jason Derouin are opening a DreamMaker remodeling franchise near Chicago

One of the absolute best parts of the DreamMaker remodeling franchise opportunity is the quality of the franchisees who are part of our organization. Our franchisees come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Many are longtime remodelers who joined DreamMaker to take advantage of our systems, marketing tools and support. Others come from a corporate background and joined DreamMaker in order to gain more control over their day-to-day lives while building a business that allowed them to flex their creative muscles.

Mike Aukerman and Jason Derouin fit both profiles. Aukerman and his wife, Debbie, were looking for a business they could help manage that would provide an extra source of income when Aukerman retires from General Motors. His son-in-law Derouin is an expert remodeler who was looking to start his own remodeling business.

We recently spent a great week with Aukerman and Derouin when they came to DreamMaker headquarters for training. While they were here, they shared their stories. Here’s some video of their interviews with DreamMaker President Doug Dwyer:

So, Mike, do you look at the quality and caliber of DreamMaker’s systems as at the level of what you’re accustomed to in the big automobile business world?

Honestly, Doug, no. It exceeds it.

Some of the questions Aukerman answers

  • What is it like to research DreamMaker?
  • What is training like? What is the quality of the training?
  • How do DreamMaker’s systems stack up compared to the auto industry?
  • How will he divide responsibilities?
  • How did he assess the opportunity?

Was the mutual evaluation process that DreamMaker took you through helpful and satisfactory?

What it really does is it provides us with the confidence that we are working with a company that fits us, as well as us fitting them.

Some of the questions Derouin answers:

  • Did the training help you understand how to run the business?
  • What attracted you to DreamMaker?
  • What made you decide to change careers?
  • How do DreamMaker’s systems provide a leg up?
  • How did DreamMaker help you gather the information you needed to make a decision?
